Annual Children's Christmas Party

Each year as Autumn comes to an end and the holiday season begins in earnest The Doll League gets busy planning the Children's Christmas Party, our oldest and most cherished activity.

Our very first Children's Christmas Party was decades ago in 1958.  Since then, members of The Doll League have selected a shelter, school, church, community center or other organization with young people who otherwise might not have a visit from Santa, food, candy, toys and all the other things that help to make Christmas a special time of year for children.

The past few years proved challenging because of the COVID pandemic.  Still, The Doll League has kept the tradition going, with some necessary adjustments to abide by mandatory restrictions.

In 2021, when some restrictions were loosened, the Dolls, parents, children and Santa all masked up to celebrate the holiday at New Community in East Orange.

In 2022, with variants of the virus still posing a threat, we provided food and gifts to a small group of families so that they could celebrate at home.

The images here are from the 2021 Children's Christmas Party and from parties in previous years.

Our very first party was in 1958 with the children of the Graham House orphanage in New York City. Since then we've kept the tradition going strong at various schools, shelters, hospitals churches and community groups in New York and New Jersey.

The parties with the kids and their parents are always great fun, and, no matter how many times we do it we're just as excited as the kids are when Santa Claus comes trotting into the room with his bag full of toys and goodies.

It's been The Doll League's way of saying "Merry Christmas" for decades now, and the tradition will continue for years to come.
